a little more from hudson, ny

(We spent the weekend in Sleepy Hollow - driving around looking at houses and drooling over the 60 miles of trails looping the Rockefeller Estate - surprisingly I took no photos.  So let's revisit Hudson shall we?)

Bangles for the ladies, handkerchiefs for the men.

Hilltop ceremony.  Traditional clothing for Rire and I.

(Speaking of, I made my dress.  Actually I refashioned one already in my closet from a previous trip to Nigeria.  Seamstress I am not, but if all errors and wayward threads are on the inside and no seams ripped I consider it a success.  I even managed a hand sewn hidden zipper which is pretty close to a miracle.  Also, tiny little photos hide a multitude of sewing sins.)
Shade was at a premium so creating your own was a smart move.  The bride and groom were gorgeous.  As was the entire farm and surrounding land we camped on.

On to the reception for live music, food, drinks & lawn games.

arriving in hudson

Playing catch up...  John and Emily's wedding, two weeks ago.

First things first, I had to walk around the grounds.  No bag, no problem.  My shirt can hold the other lens.

We set up camp and I have to hand it to them - they did not disappoint on the amenities provided to their wedding guests.  Just because you're camping doesn't mean to you have rough it completely.

Showers, changing rooms.  Mirrors.  Soap, flowers.  They thought of everything.

Perfect for all of us city slickers in the woods-

a brooklyn wedding

R.I.C.E. works.  I can attest to that.

I sprained my ankle on Friday. There are photos, I will not be posting any, at least I don't think so.  I'm oddly charmed by them, if only because I can see improvement.  The swelling is giving way and you can almost make out an ankle bone! There is no fun story, I simply stepped wrong while running in Prospect (on a flat surface no less) and the pain was immediate and intense. I ended up sitting on a pile of wood chips while I waited for the dizziness to stop - I had a mile and a half walk home to gear up for. I've sprained both ankles more times than I can count, though this one takes the cake as far as pain goes. I know there's nothing to be done but wait it out, so wait I do.

All of that being said, we went to a wedding on Saturday and I refused to give up on wearing heels, it was a party after all. So I spent most of the day sitting.  And wore my flip flops there. But none of that mattered - it was a perfect day, the bride was glowing and the guests were gorgeous. Everyone was smiling and laughing. No matter where you turned, you were guaranteed a beautiful picture. It was also the first wedding Rire and I attended as a married couple and I loved it.  There was something so sentimental about watching vows being exchanged when we did the same only a year ago.

Congratulations to L & T, the beautiful and happy couple!

the first year

No one tells you how to cut the cake, so you just sort of awkwardly go at it, knife in hand.

We're laughing at something, most likely the pros and cons of cake face smashing.  In the end we kept it civilized.

Our cake, a perfect, delicious cake, wasn't an official wedding cake. A few weeks before the wedding I went to Baked and bought an assortment of cupcakes, brought 'em home and sample we did.  Best taste test ever.  Even better, on our anniversary we get to indulge all over again.

Happy anniversary to us.
