Ossining, NY

Should we stay or should we go?

The inevitable question when you live in an apartment. Reading real estate listings is becoming a hobby. Have you seen upstater? Of course the affordable rambling farm houses on a few acres (perfect for chickens!) would make for a nightmarish commute into the city. So where does that leave us? I'm drawn to the Hudson, the towns along the river. And more than that, towns with the Old Croton Aqueduct. So that narrows things even further, from Ossining to Hastings-on-Hudson. We know Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown well enough, so it's time to start exploring elsewhere. First up, Ossining, home of the Drapers (if Mad Men actually filmed in New York).

First impression? Hilly. Hills and more hills and hairpin turns. But we liked it. Running on the road (at least those that we saw) wouldn't work so well, but the OCA looked incredibly promising. It passes right behind the big brick house and through numerous backyards. That is the kind of access I want!
